The national teams of all three Baltic countries were drawn into the same EuroBasket group that took place in the Latvian capital Riga. It was the Lithuanian side that proved to be the most successful, but there will be more Baltic battles to come in the upcoming weekend.
The best Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian teams will compete in the Baltic Cup 2015 competition in the Estonian seaside resort of Parnu. The event will take place on September 11-12 and will feature 23 different teams in nine different age categories.
“Esto Maxibasket is honored to be able to organize the first BalticCup, where Estonia’s, Latvia’s and Lithuania’s basketball champions will play for the Baltic Cup. This is the beginning of a new tradition that will give players the opportunity to meet their match and play off against formidable opponents,” said Piret Hallik-Sass, the Chairman of the Board of Esto Maxibasket.
The championship, an initiative from the veteran’s basketball associations of all three Baltic countries, is being held for the first time. Estonians, as the hosts of the inaugural event, are hoping to guarantee a festive atmosphere.
“As organisers we value high organisational quality of games and good atmosphere. We wish to make the stay in Pärnu for teams and representatives enjoyable and offer an unforgettable experience. We wish all teams good luck in the games and a great stay,” Hallik-Sass said.
The European Seniors Basketball Association is also helping to organize the event, as the main informational partner. ESBA will provide the official website of the event, live statistics of games among other things.
