Cheered on by clearly the loudest support group in the whole ESBA Promo Championship, BC Svaja defeated the local Liepaja side 65-47 to win the W40 category on Thursday evening, while the hosts claimed silver.
Last time the teams met, the Lithuanians needed a big fourth-quarter comeback to snatch the victory out of the hands of Liepaja players. However, this time Svaja broke away already in the opening quarter.
After the first ten minutes of play, the team from Vilnius had already established a 17-7 lead and never looked back. Ramune Giliene, who was named the MVP of the M40 category, led the winners with 17 points and six rebounds, while Ziedune Cijuncikiene and Loreta Stanciauskiene added 11 and 10 points respectively.
For Liepaja, Dace Varna had 15 points, as Iveta Epnere was the only other player in double figures, having chipped in with 10 points.
