Winning when it matters was the name of the story on Thursday morning, as Sakret LT got revenge against Vilniaus Statybos Senjorai for the group stage loss by taking a 55-51 victory in the gold-medal game of the M60 category.
“We lost to them in the group game of the Lithuanian championship as well, but got the better of them in the final. Today, it all repeated itself,” said the captain of the winning team, Juras Sadovnikovas, who scored seven points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the final.
Sakret got off to a better start, taking a 13-7 lead after the opening period, and were in front in the first half of the game. However, Vilniaus Statybos Senjorai bounced back with an excellent third quarter to enter the final frame already up 34-33.
However, Sakret shot ahead once again at the start of the fourth quarter, but three-pointers of Eduardas Kairys, who was given the MVP award, kept Vilniaus Statybos Senjorai in the game. Nevertheless, it wasn’t enough, as Sakret prevailed.
Arunas Baltinas and Romutis Grusauskas led the winners with 15 points apiece, while Algirdas Linge chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Eduardas Kairys had a game-high 18 points, Jonas Zizliauskas scored 11 points and grabbed six boards, Arvydas Stasaitis and Zenonas Bruze both contributed with 10 points and nine rebounds each.
