W35/40: NWABL rout Liepaja for another win

North-West Amateur Basketball League added another victory to its tally with a massive 77-31 blow-out win against Liepaja on Wednesday evening. It was the third victory in as many as games for the Russian side, who passed the group stage without a single loss.

The hosts from Latvia managed to score only 12 points in the first two quarters, which saw the guests take a 48-12 lead midway through the game. Although the game evened out somewhat after the break, there were never any doubts about the winner of the game.

Mariia Kalmykova was the game’s top scorer with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Natalia Alekseeva added 15 points and eight boards, while Anzhelika Boikova chipped in with 14 points.

Varna was the only player in double digits for Liepaja with 12 points and six rebounds.

In the other game of the day, BC Svaja returned to winning form on Wednesday with a 56-47 win against Saint Petersburg, for whom it was the second loss in three games.

The first half saw the teams exchange leads, but Saint Petersburg took a 26-24 lead into the halftime interval. However, the script flipped completely in the third quarter, with the Lithuanians spurting 18-6 and breaking the game in their favor.

Ingrida Jonkute led all scorers with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Ramune Giliene added 15 points and seven boards. For Saint Petersburg, Viktoriia Savushkina, Diana Bobrysheva and Galina Ragozina all had 12 points each.
