W35/40: NW Amateur Basketball League and BC Svaja win

The women’s tournament started with a convincing victory by The North-West Amateur Basketball League’s team, while BC Svaja also started with a win, but had to work much harder for the victory.

In the first game of the day, The North-West Amateur Basketball League from Russia registered a 70-53 victory against Saint Petersburg despite a relatively slow start. Trailing in the early going, the eventual winners pulled away in the second period and never looked back.

Natalia Alekseeva finished the game with 20 points and seven rebounds for the North-West Amateur Basketball League, Anzhelika Boikova and Zenfira Rogutina added 17 points each.

For Saint Petersburg, Viktoriia Savushkina had 15 points and nine rebounds, with Ekaterina Diadkina adding 11 points and six boards.

Meanwhile, BC Svaja won the fourth quarter by 12 points to top Liepaja 60-54 in their opening game of the tournament.  Trailing 44-38 at the start of the final period, the Lithuanians came back from behind to upset the local side.

Loreta Stanciauskiene scored 23 points for BC Svaja, while Ingrida Jonkute finished the game with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Ilze Dukate top-scored for Liepaja, finishing the game with 17 points and 11 boards.
