Each of the three competing countries, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania had a win on the opening day of the women’s games at the 2016 Baltic Cup.
The Estonian Tark ei torma team, led by Katrin Aava with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Reet Rausberg with 11 points, had a relatively easy victory against Augma Baltic 43:26 in the W50 age category. Ineta Leita with 9 points and Lorita Sausa with 8 points top scored for the losing Lithuanian team.
In the W40 age group, Estonia and Radviliskis finished the game on 38:38 at full time, but the former came out winners 47:40 after overtime in the closest women’s game on the first day. Monica Vood picked up 14 points with 12 rebounds for the winners while Katrin Olmari had 14 points as well. Inga Jokubaitiene had 13 points and 13 rebounds in a sterling effort for the Lithuanians.
Ligita Kinkeviciene led the way to victory for SKK Versan with 29 points in a fine shooting display against Estonia in the W35 age category. Helina Esnar and Sheila Kodanik had 12 and 10 points respectively for the Estonians.
Kekava were too strong for Livani, finishing up 54:33, in the Latvian derby in the W35 age group. Dace Rimbeniece led the way with 17 points and 6 rebounds for Kekava, assisted by Dace Cinite with 10 and 10. Iveta Aispure with 12 points and 6 rebounds was the leading scorer for Livani.
