Eighteen different teams are gearing up for the ESBA Promo Championship, which is set to tip off in a week’s time in the Latvian seaside town of Liepaja. For seven days, participants from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Russia will take root in Liepaja’s Olympic Center.

A total of fourteen teams will compete for silverware in six different age categories (M40, M45, M50, M55, M60, M65) for men, while the two women age categories (W35, W40) will feature four teams.

In order to increase the number of games, the adjacent age categories will be merged. Teams from M40/M45, M50/55, M60/65 and W30/35 age groups will play each other, but prizes for all individual age categories will remain separate.

  • Teams in the M40 (three teams) and M45 (three teams) age categories will play a round-robin stage in a six-team group, with top three teams in each category awarded separately.
  • Teams in the M50 (three teams) and M55 (one team) age categories will also play together in a four-team round robin stage, before entering seeded (1st M50 team vs M55 team; 2nd M50 team vs 3rd M50 team) playoff match-ups and then finals, involving the top M50 team and the winner of the second semi-final between the 2nd and 3rd placed team . The lone team in the M55 age category will automatically be given first place in their category.
  • Teams in M60 (three teams) and M65 (one team) age categories will play in a four-team round robin stage. Two top M60 teams will play in the final, while the third-placed team will play the lone team in the M65 age category.
  • Teams in W35 (two teams) and W40 (two teams) age categories will play in a four-team round robin stage, ending in two finals: both teams from W35 age category will play each other, while both teams from W40 will also play each other.
