Day 2: Men’s games – morning

The wet weather in Liepaja overnight didn’t dampen the players’ spirits as the games continued at the Liepaja Olympic Centre on the second day of the Baltic Cup 2016.

The first game on the second day was in the M65 age category, where Tukums showed their superiority in the game against Sameko taking out the victory 59:25 and securing 3rd place in the Cup. Arvids Drikis had another good game with 11 points and 5 rebounds, assisted by Viktors Kaktins with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Ilmar Kuut dominated the boards with 11 rebounds to add to his 12 points for the Estonians.

Ranga eventually ran away with 3rd place in the M60 age category against Ķekava after being up by only 2 points at half time, with the final scores being 67:39. Algirdas Linge with 16 points was top scorer for the winners with 3 others scoring over 10 points for the Lithuanians. Gunars Lazda put in a fine effort, to no avail for the Latvians, collecting 19 points and 9 rebounds.

Kekava were too strong for TOP Trust in the M55 age group taking out the game 49:40 with the big men, Gunars Mednis (15 points) and Igors Lukis (13 points) dominating the boards with 12 and 13 rebounds respectively. Andrus Toom with 18 points and 8 rebounds couldn’t save the day for the hard working Estonians.

Wombat had too many answers for Tukums taking out 3rd place in the M50 age category 82:55. Estonia’s Ott Poldsaar’s 23 points and 8 rebounds and Peedu Pedaru’s 20 points and 7 rebounds sealed the Latvians’ fate.  Guntis Kaulens was a tower of strength in the middle for the Latvians with 23 points and 9 rebounds.
